Free Cell Phone Program for Seniors at SUNY Albany College

June 11, 2008

AT&T has teamed up with OASIS to offer a free cell phone program for seniors at SUNY (Albany) on Friday, June 13, 2008 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. to help seniors use their cell phones effectively.

The free cell phone program for seniors will take place at SUNY’s Alumni House at 1400 Washington Ave. in Albany, New York. The purpose is to provide seniors with tips on how to use their phones, including text-messaging, checking voice mail and sharing photos with friends and family. Seniors can also learn about AT&T’s Hearing Aid Compatible (HAC) options for cell phones.

“For safety reasons, it is critical that our members are able to operate their mobile phones. AT&T’s free seminar is a unique opportunity for seniors to receive one-on-one help–and ultimately walk away feeling more comfortable with the technology,” said Meg McCarthy, director of the New York State Capital Region OASIS chapter, a not-for-profit organization that aims to enrich the lives of mature adults.

Seniors are encouraged to bring their own phones, no matter the carrier, but AT&T will have practice phones at the event. Representatives will conduct “hands-on” demonstrations and one-on-one support.

The program is a new public service initiative for AT&T, but they have plans to expand the program. The next event is scheduled for Monday, July 21, 2008 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at St. Luke’s Pastoral Center in Schenectady, New York.
